William A. Soltes

WILLIAM A. SOLTES, age 89, beloved husband for 59 years of the late Shirley (nee Wacko), loving father of Karen Backus (husband Kent), Patricia Kelleher (husband Kevin), William, Michael (wife Amy) and Mary Kay Bruner (husband Brad), devoted grandfather of Erin Roberts (husband Tracy), Kelsey Kelleher, Connor Kelleher (fiancee Sarah), Anna Soltes, Nathan Soltes, Adam Soltes and Kate Bruner, great-grandfather of Riley and Reagan Roberts, cherished son of the late John and Mary (nee Dulka), dear brother of the late John, Dorothy Armstrong and MaryLou Nemeth, fond cousin, uncle and great-uncle.

Bill Soltes was born and raised in the Cleveland Buckeye neighborhood with his parents and three siblings.  He was a proud graduate of Benedictine High School and had a tight-knit group of buddies that formed the Buckeye Knights.  The Buckeye Knights helped out the neighborhood while having fun at the same time.  He was soon called to serve in the Army, serving oversees for several years.

Bill worked several jobs with his interests in auto mechanics, but ultimately spent his career with the Pipefitters Local 120, running various jobs as foreman.

Bill married the love of his life, Shirley, in 1960 and together they raised and loved five children, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.  His home was the center of his life for over 50 years.  He worked countless hours to provide for his family.  In 1969, the family moved to Richmond Heights and attended St. Paschal Baylon Parish.  He is fondly remembered by family and friends for his beautiful yard, Spindle Wheel, his 1956 Pink Chrysler car, and his Christmas light displays.

He shared his love for the outdoors, especially the water.  The family spent countless summer vacations by the beach body surfing in the ocean or tossing his children, and then grandchildren around in the pool, or just sitting on the beach enjoying a nice cold brew.

Bill's quick wit and mind challenged and amused.  His family was his life.  He gave them thru example, the importance of religion, self-discipline and hard work ethic.  If you had a problem, you knew you could count on Bill to help out.  You may have not liked his answer, but he was a loyal and truthful person.  As a strong and disciplined father, he also showed his children how to love, experience adventure and joy.

Bill faced several health challenges over the last 12 years that included a Stroke and heart issues.  Although disappointed with his restricted mobility, he always faced the challenge and created methods that permitted him to reside in his home.  He was extremely thankful for everyone that helped with his care and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren.

Dad, we love you...this Bud's for you!
