WILLIAM F. O’DONNELL, age 57, of Mentor on the Lake, passed away on July 21, 2014; beloved son of Veronica “Roni” (nee Tighe) and the late Leonard; cherished brother of Patricia A. Elton (husband Steven) and the late Kevin; loving uncle of Veronica M., Rebecca A. and Andrew Elton and Loretta Michalski (husband Paul); treasured grandson of the late Lillian (nee Gath) and Leonard R. O’Donnell. and Frederick and Laura (nee Allen) Tighe; dear nephew, cousin and friend of many.

Bill was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 25, 1957. He grew up in Gates Mills, Ohio and graduated from Mayfield High School in 1976. He was a certified Diesel Mechanic and enjoyed working on and racing his Cuda. Bill worked in construction most of his life, first building log homes in Newbury/Chardon Ohio, and building other houses and remodeling homes in Lake and Geauga counties in Ohio. He was one of the crew members sent down to help rebuild Homestead, Florida after Hurricane Andrew destroyed the city in August 1992. He lived at his home in Mentor on the Lake for over 25 years with his devoted dogs Nina, and Jennie. He had many friends and neighbors in the area he considered family and would open his home for and would do anything for them. Many will fondly remember him as a big-hearted, intelligent, hard-working, dedicated, generous person who was always ready to help. Bill’s favorite hobby was watching and following the Nascar racing circuit.

Contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to the American Heart Association.

Prayers of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop RD and Rt. 91). Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. The family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Bill at the FUNERAL HOME on FRIDAY FROM 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
