William Harvey “Bill” Cronemeyer passed away peacefully at his home in Mayfield Village January 27, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Marjory (nee Graham).
Bill was the uncle to three nieces, Linda Curry (John), Sally Dudash (Steve), Nancy Langer (Jeff), and to nephew Bill Quick (Julie). He is also survived by a step son, Dale Fellows (Nancy), and step grandson Erik Fellows (Katie).
Bill and Marjory never had any children of their own but did parent a number of “4 legged children”, dogs, over the years and became active in various canine organizations.
Bill served his country in the U.S. Army during World II as a commissioned officer both in the United States and overseas. He had entered the Army ROTC while in college at the University of Pittsburgh and went on active duty upon graduation in the spring of 1941 at Fort Lee, Virginia and then Camp Breckenridge, Kentucky. He was assigned as commanding officer to the 4338 Quartermaster Service Company and went overseas to England, France, and Germany in the spring of 1944.
When the war in Europe concluded in the spring of 1945, the 4338 Service Company was ordered to the Pacific theatre, specifically the Phillippines. Ironically, the Japanese surrendered just before the unit landed. The troops liked to joke that the Germans surrendered when they saw the 4338th coming and so did the Japanese.
Upon Bill’s return to the States in 1946 he entered the Army Reserves and served as both an instructor and a unit commander retiring from active duty with a combined 21 years of service as a Lt. Colonel. When asked what he did during the War, Bill usually replied that he had been seasick on both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
