William “Bill” Nyman

WILLIAM “BILL” NYMAN age 90, beloved husband of the late Mary (nee Steven); loving father of Virginia Katona (husband Raymond), William (wife Lori), and Robert (wife Doreen); devoted grandfather of Althea and Cory Katona, and Gregory, Michael, Steven, and Matthew Nyman; cherished son of the late William and Cecilia (nee Puszcykowski). U.S. Army Veteran.

Bill was born on April 15, 1928 in Long Island City, NY and passed away on February 21, 2019. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army and served in Japan during WWII. Bill met his future wife Mary at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Bayshore, NY., and began competing as dance partners. It was not many months and dance medals later that Mary won Bill over, and his dance partner became his life partner. Bill was an engineer and had a focus in medical imaging. After a career working on innovative, and sometimes top secret projects, he moved to Newbury to take a job at Picker X-Ray (later Philips) in Highland Heights. While at home, he could always be found tinkering with something to figure out how it worked and maybe to build it in his home machine shop. When he was not at work or tinkering away, he loved being out on the water on his boat, fishing or cruising to interesting places. Family vacations consisted of boat trips and later camping. After retirement, he continued to be an active member of the Philips Quarter Century Club and became very involved in both his faith and church. As a member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church, he spent many years as a member of Adoration and ROSS group (Retired Old Scullery Scum) ministries serving the local community.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Abbey of Gethsemani, 3642 Monks Rd., Trappist, KY 40051.

Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Rd., Newbury, OH 44065 at 10 AM. Burial following with Military Honors at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Bill at THE DeJOHN Funeral Home & Crematory of Chardon (formerly Ritondaro) 126 South St.  (Rt. 44, south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) MONDAY from 4-7 PM.
