Wilbur Higham

WILBUR HIGHAM, aged 97 years, dearly beloved husband for 73 years to the late Dorothy A. (nee Campbell), dear father of Robert F., Kathleen A. LoPresti (husband James) and the late Wilbur W., loving grandfather of Kathryn LoPresti Linn, Lynda Hansen, Michael and William Higham, and Anne Marie Thoen, cherished great-grandfather of 8, devoted brother-in-law to the late Genevieve Guzzo (husband Romolo), fond uncle and great-uncle.

Mr. Higham was born on March 28, 1918 in Youngstown, Ohio. He was a resident of Richmond Heights for 25 years. He worked as a stage hand at the American Decorating Co., Embassy Theatre, Hippodrome Theatre, Hanna Theatre, Severance Hall and the Cleveland Orchestra for over 32 years. He was an executive board member of The International Alliance of the Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) for many years.

Wilbur enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and card games. He did not have a favorite type of music, but owing to his job, he was surrounded by classical music for 32 years.

Wilbur served his country honorably as a United States Marine. He served in Guam in the South Pacific during World War II.

He was a member of Collinwood Memories, American Legion Post # 775, the Italian American Golf Association, and IATSE.

The one thing in life that gave him the most enjoyment was his family. He was loving and devoted to his wife Dorothy, and blessed with 73 years of marriage until her death in 2012. He cherished his family, especially doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved all the holidays and the family birthday dinners.

His family describes Wilbur as a perfect gentleman. He was the best dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He was always caring for and helping others. He was a most honorable person and a man who loved and served his country.
