Walter "Skip" Stone

October 8, 1941 — June 28, 2024

WALTER “SKIP” STONE age 82, beloved husband of Sherrie (nee Warner); loving father of Kelly Pierce (husband Robert), Lori Angelo (husband Joseph), and William (wife Michelle); devoted Boppie of Ashley Ross (husband Andy), Joseph Angelo (wife Abbigail), Nicholas Angelo, John Angelo (wife Erin), Karl Pierce, Jake Pierce, and Adam Stone, and great-grandfather of Owen and Nico Ross, and Lily, Lukas, and the late Marion Angelo; cherished son of the late Andrew and Ina (nee Kiviniemi) Stone; dearest brother of Kathleen Malobenski (husband Larrie, deceased) and the late Paul A. Stone.

Walter, best known to family and friends as Skip, was born on October 8, 1941. A lifelong resident of Montville, Ohio, he attended Chardon High School and was the captain of the Hill Toppers football team before graduating in 1959. Although scoring the winning point on a Friday night felt great, it was the love of his life, Sherrie, that was Skip’s greatest achievement. He married his high school sweetheart on November 26, 1960, and together they became a family of five. Skip was extremely hardworking and began working as a milk hauler for the family business, Montville Milk Cartage. Taking his family with him to various farms and visiting the numerous farmers was not only the highlight of his days, but precious memories etched in time with his children. Skip went on to own and operate Walter E. Stone Trucking for many years before retiring with Arms Trucking. Being a truck driver was a true passion for Skip and he was often referred to as “Rand McNally” for his navigation skills by those who had the privilege of working with him. Upon retirement he filled his time woodworking, camping, fishing, and going on cruises. Skip and Sherrie enjoyed spending time in the camper with their fur companions Daisy Mae and Trixie. Traveling had always been important to Skip, especially when his children were young and they would visit relatives in Canada, and travel to Florida to go to Disney World. Skip was an extremely generous man. He enjoyed mowing his lawn and working on small projects around his house, however if there was something you needed, he would be there for you without question. Skip was loving, caring, and humorous. He loved pranking and teasing family and friends. Skip passed away on June 28, 2024. His family will forever miss his endless and unconditional love, and the safe haven that he always provided.
