W. Thomas Donovan

W. THOMAS “TOM” DONOVAN, aged 77 years, beloved husband for 53 years to Mary Beth (nee Monroe), devoted father of Teresa Todd (David), Lisa DiVincenzo (John), Thomas S. (Jamie), Susan (Ron), Kate McDade (Tim), Megan Lublin (Patrick) and Kevin (Pamela), loving grandfather of Jessica and Allison Todd, Travis and Jack Donovan, Alexa and Kayla McDade, Donovan Lublin, and Emily, Bridgette and Conor Donovan, dear son of the late Wally and Mildred (nee Scott), fond brother of Daniel (deceased), Mary Margaret Hanus, William, and Kathleen Reffner.

Tom was born on Sept. 25, 1939 in Greenville, PA, and passed away in Mayfield Heights, OH on Saturday, May 6, 2017. He was a graduate of St. Michael High School in Greenville, PA, and of St. Bonaventure College, where he learned to drink and enjoy a good beer. He was the founder of Donovan Packaging Inc. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the East Side Irish American Club.

He was a 52-year resident of South Euclid, and member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.

Tom was noted as being an excellent omelet cooker, wood worker, gardener and toy maker. He enjoyed family trips, Cleveland sport teams, Sunday swims at Victory Park, hosting parties, and sitting at home on the porch he built. He was well known for having a “lead foot” when driving!!

His greatest enjoyment in life came from his family – his wife, his kids, his grandchildren, and his entire family. Family vacations in Maine were always special, as were the Christmas holidays (including cutting down the tree), trips to Holden Arboretum, Irish festivals, and apple picking. He was a smart business man, had a strong work ethic, a great hook shot, built an ice skating rink in his back yard, and enjoyed muskrat hunting on North 2^nd St.

A proud Irish gentleman loved by family, friends and caretakers.

The family suggests contributions in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 145, Memphis, TN 38101-9801.

Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, May 11, 2017 in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish at 11 AM. Burial following with Military Honors in Lake View Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Tom at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just East of Green Rd.) WEDNESDAY 2-5 AND 6-8 PM.
