Volodymyr Poliakov

Volodymyr Poliakov, age 77, beloved husband of the late Tamara; loving father of Yuri and Eduard; devoted grandfather of four.

Volodymyr was born in 1935 in Rostov, Russia. His dad was a clarinet player in a jazz orchestra, and his mom danced in the operetta theater. He spent most of his life in Donetsk, Ukraine and he spent WWII in the occupation. After his time in the Army, he became an electrical engineer and worked with machinery and electronic equipment in factories, oil and gas companies. As a hobby and then an extra income, he fixed and built TV sets, radios and other gadgets.

He was an athletic person and was very active all his life, participating in gymnastics, swimming and weight lifting. In his last years, he swam in the pool twice a week which gave him so much pleasure. He enjoyed camping and riding a motorcycle or driving a car on long trips around the country with his family. He was an avid photographer since he was a kid and left the family many photo memories.

In 1957, Volodymyr met Tamara and married her two years later. They had two sons – Yuri and Eduard, and now four grandchildren. In 2009, he and Tamara moved to the United States to be with Eduard, family, and the grandkids. He spent his last years remaining active, energetic, and optimistic while finding new friends, studying English and enjoying life.

A graveside service will be 11 AM Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Knollwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebration the life of Volodymyr Tuesday 6-8 PM at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just east of Green Rd.).
