Virginia Ann Marous (nee Scott), of Chardon, OH, age 84, passed away at home on April 2, 2016 with her loving family by her side. Her greatest love in life were her children and their families including Kathy Marous, Sue (Mike) Miller, Scott (Sandra), Kenneth (Jill Van Auken), Adelbert Jr. “Chip” (Shelly), and Jeanne (Ron) Kolencik. She will be greatly missed by her eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren (two more on the way). Dear sister of Lynn Steffens (Roger, deceased) and Charles (Suzanne) Scott. Aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Adelbert Marous (1997) and her parents Charles and Dorothy (Strader) Scott.
Virginia was born in Cleveland, OH on October 27, 1931 and attended Collinwood High School where she was a member of the Girls Gym Leaders Club. Won a ribbon for the high jump. Member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in her youth. She was a lifelong poet, having written her first poem in high school, followed by many inspirational poems and meditations written throughout her lifetime. She was a woman of great faith demonstrating her love of Jesus as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Noel in Willoughby Hills and St. Mary’s in Chardon for 25 years, Past Director of the RCIA Program and member of the healing team at St. Noel. Provided communion to the homebound sick for many years.
Virginia loved to golf, especially in AZ, play pinochle and dominos with her friends. Past President of the Willoughby Hills Garden Club and member of Christ Child Society of Geauga County. She also enjoyed cake decorating and knitting, having made countless garments for friends and family and hats for the homeless, WomenSafe and area cancer treatment centers. Virginia was also known for her baking, always having a batch of cookies or bread ready to share with her family. Her kind heart and generosity will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family suggests memorial contributions in Virginia’s name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44110. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, April 8, Church of St. Mary, 401 North St. Chardon at 11:30 am. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. The family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Virginia at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) THURSDAY 2-4 and 5-8 pm.
