Virginia Fern “Ginny” Hammitt (nee Haviland) passed away peacefully on April 9, 2015 in Kings Mountain, NC at the age of 97 years young. Ginny lived most of her life in Chardon, until moving to Kings Mountain, NC 9 years ago.
The heavenly angels have lifted her to join the love of her life, her beloved husband, James Weldon Hammitt.
She took great pride, and is survived by, her two sons Glen Hammitt (wife Nancy, deceased) of Chardon, and Richard Hammitt (wife Patrice) of NC; grandchildren Glen, Jr. (wife Audette), Debbie (companion Nancy Holston) Diedrich, Michael (Anne) Diedrich, Scott Hammitt, Shelley (Domenic) Mazza, Laurie (Brian) DeLong, and Sally Hammitt; 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Born January 25, 1918 to the late Earl and Hatti Ruth Haviland. She was preceded in death by her daughter Janice (Raymond) Diedrich; granddaughter Sandra Lee Hammitt; and her five siblings Paul (Doris) Haviland, Glen (Pat) Haviland, Richard (Sybil) Haviland, Marge (Lee) Vanduesen and Lucille (Ivan) Wood.
She exemplified hard work and remained a giver all of her life. Ginny never forgot her grandchildren’s birthdays and family meant the world to her.
From crosswords and cards, to joyful walks and competitive Rummikube, Ginny’s contagious smile, incredible memory and joy for life remains cherished by her loved ones.
Chapel service will be held Friday, April 17, 2015 at 1:30pm at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chesterland.
