VINCENT FRANCIS DECRANE, aged 95 years, beloved husband for 69 years to the late Flora E. (nee Friday), dear father of Barb Bumbacco (Ed), Peter, Donna Panzica (Tim), Michael (Sandy), Melinda Capone (Chris), Melissa Gary (Brian), Joan Bova (Joe), and Mary Jean Salinas (Carlos); devoted son of the late Alfred C. & Verona (nee Marquard), cherished brother of Clarice Walsh (husband Edward- deceased) and Alfred C. (deceased) (wife Joan). He was loved and respected by his 27 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Vincent sold interest and retired as President of Dunlop & Johnston Inc., General Contractors, December 31, 1987. He was also a Founding General Partner of Sawmill Creek Resort in Huron, Ohio. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with BS Degree in Architectural Engineering in 1950, where he was the President of Cleveland Club and a Member of the Blue Circle. He also graduated from Cathedral Latin School. Vincent served with the First Cavalry Division in the Army of Occupation, Japan and with the Third Armored Division and The Armored School Training Command in Fort Knox, KY during the Korean War. He married his wife Flora E. on Friday, July 7, 1951 and had 8 beautiful children; Barbara (Bumbacco), Peter, Donna (Panzica), Michael, Melinda (Capone), Melissa (Gary) Joan (Bova) and Mary Jean (Salinas).
Vincent also served as Board President at Catholic Charities Corporation where he was on the Executive Committee, Building & Grounds Committee, Liaison Committee to United Way, Chaired Nominating Committee and Member Heritage Society. He was Board President at Brentwood Hospital where he was on the Executive Committee, Chaired Long Range Planning Committee and Chaired Building & Grounds Committee. Vincent also served on the Board Chair at Catholic Charities Facilities Corp., Executive Committee and Housing Committee, Board President at LeBlond Housing Corp. (Diocese of Cleveland), Board President at The Builders Exchange where he was on various committees, Board President at Cleveland Division and Associated General Contractors of America and Warrensville Heights/North Randall Chamber of Commerce. He was President at Gilmour Academy Men’s Club, First Friday Club of Cleveland (Diocese of Cleveland) and Regina High School Parents Association Annual Appeal. Vincent served as Chair at St. Clare Parish Finance Council, United Way Construction Division, and United Way Agency Supplemental Fundraising Committee. He was Director at Ohio Building Chapter, Associated General Contractors of America, Construction Employers Association, Parent Council, St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame and Indiana. Vincent was a Trustee at Community Dialysis Centers of Cleveland (Corporate Secretary), Gilmour Academy where he was on the Corporate Board, Executive Committee, Chaired Building & Grounds Committee and Development Committee. He was also the trustee on The Brentwood Foundation Executive Committee, Grant Review Committee, Medical Education Strategic Planning Committee, South Pointe Hospital and Center for Pastoral Leadership (diocese of Cleveland) Chaired Facilities Committee.
Vincent was a Member of St. Clare Parish (Lyndhurst) where he was on the Chaired Finance Council, Chaired Parish Catholic Charities Drive, Taught in Parish School of Religion, Parish Long Range Planning Committee, Endowment Formation Committee, Building Oversight Committee, Chaired Major Capital Improvement Fund Drive and Lead Two Offertory Enhancement Campaigns. He was a member of Cleveland Engineering Society and was on the Construction Conference Committee and Nominating Committee, Cleveland Construction Industry Affairs Committee on the Editorial Committee, American Instituted of Constructors, National Construction Management Committee, Associated General Contractors where he delivered addresses at two national conventions, City of Lyndhurst Planning Commission, Meridia Hospital System Board of Governors, Greater Cleveland Hospital Association, St. Mary’s Seminary Board of Overseers (Diocese of Cleveland) where he was the Vice Chair, Greater Cleveland Growth Association, Blue Coats, Incorporated, The Mayfield Country Club, Catholic Charities Consulters (Diocese of Cleveland) and Trustee of the Diocese of Cleveland Facilities Services Corp.
Vincent received Honors from the Notre Dame Club of Cleveland for the “Man of the Year Award” in 1985, Cleveland Engineering Society Construction Division for the “Hall of Fame Award” in 1986, Regina High School for the “Principal’s Leadership Award” in 1992, Honorary Trustee Catholic Charities Corporation in 1998, Catholic Diocese of Cleveland Foundation for the “Honor Roll of Philanthropy” in 2001, Who’s Who in the Midwest for several years, Who’s Who in Business and Industry for several years and Resolution of Appreciation for Services Rendered to Diocese of Cleveland Facilities Services Corporation which he received on March 3, 2014.
Contributions in memory of Vin suggested to Catholic Charities, 7911 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, OH 44102; or to St Clare Catholic Church, 5659 Mayfield Rd, Lyndhurst, OH 44124. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Nov 12, 2022, at St Clare Catholic Church at 10am. Burial following with military honors at All Soul Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay final respects to Vin at the DEJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just East of Green Rd) 8-9 AM ON SAT. NOV. 12.
