VICTOR YOUNG MATTHEWS SR. age 72, beloved husband for 53 years of Sylvia “Sally” (nee Redding); loving father of Laurie, Victor Jr, and Samuel (wife Amanda); devoted grandfather of Dominic and Hunter; cherished son of the late Joseph and Helen May (nee Hunter); dearest brother of Nancy Reed, Lynn Lariviere, and the late David James (wife Patricia); dear uncle and great-uncle of many.
Victor was born on December 26, 1944 in East Cleveland and passed away on December 24, 2017. He was a parishioner of Mayfield United Methodist Church and a Past Master Village Lodge #274 F&AM. Victor also belonged to Coeur de Lion Commandery, Al Koran Shrine and Order of DeMolay. Victor was also a member of N.E. Yacht Club and EOUV Club. He graduated from Collinwood High School in 1963 and earned his Associates Degree from DeVry Institute and a business degree from John Carroll University. Victor proudly worked as a Welding Engineer at Lincoln Electric where he was the president of the Employees Association and received 8 patents. In 1995 he was named Man of The Year. Victor was also the president of the American Welding Society in 2009. He was a Firefighter and EMT for Russell Township. He was a founding member of NAMI Geauga County and served on the Geauga County Board of Mental Health and Recovery services. Victor also served Geauga County Court System as a Juvenile Court Family Life Improvement Program Director. In his free time, Victor enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending summers at his cottage in Michigan. He greatly enjoyed playing soccer and softball. Victor loved playing the violin and listening to music. He was hardworking, persevering, selfless, giving, social, and devoted to his family. He had a great sense of humor. Victor will be dearly missed by all.

Celebration of Life Service, Saturday December 30, 2017 at Mayfield Church at 11 AM. Cremation following by DeJohn Crematory. Private Burial at a later date at Acacia Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Victor at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) FRIDAY 3-5 & 6-8 PM. Masonic Service at 7 PM by Village Lodge #274 F&AM.
