V. HOWARD WELCH, age 79; beloved husband for 57 years of Joyce (nee Long); loving father of Gary (wife Kris) and Douglas (wife Kim); devoted grandfather of Gregory, Jackie, Kelley (fiance Adam Barris) and Ashley; cherished son of the late Vernon A. and Thelma (nee Musselman); dearest step-brother of Lorene Lewis (husband Ralph); treasured companion of canine Jack.
Howard was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He lived in the Mayfield Heights area for 55 years after previously living in Euclid. He was a member of the Highland Sixth Presbyterian Church since 1964, serving as an Elder and choir member for 35 years. He belonged to Mayfield Heights Jaycees and was active in several Little Theaters. Howard graduated from Euclid High School and then Baldwin Wallace College and worked for General Electric in credit and collections. He also enjoyed sports, music (particularly from the 1950’s and Glenn Miller), golf, softball and acting. His family remembers him as caring, kind, conscientious and a good listener.
Contributions may be made in Howie’s memory to Highland Sixth Presbyterian Church Music Program, 5632 Wilson Mills Rd., Highland Heights, Ohio 44143. A Celebration of Life Service in memory of Howie with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Highland Sixth Presbyterian Church. Private Inurnment will take place at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Howie at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just east of Green Rd.) on FRIDAY, APRIL 5, 2013 FROM 2:00 TO 4:00 and 6:00 TO 8:00 PM. Cremation following by DeJohn Crematory.
