THOMAS S. VERDI age 70, died unexpectedly while surrounded by family on November 23, 2024. For 45 years, Tom was the beloved husband of Margaret “Margy” (nee O’Hare); loving father of Kathleen “Katie” Impullitti (Nick), Danny (Jenny), Brian, and Jane Lihani (Jonathan); devoted grandfather of Joey, Jack, Quinn, and Colton; cherished son of the late Joseph and Josephine (nee Kozel); dearest brother of Joe (Patty) and brother-in-law of Ken & Beth O’Hare, Don & Cindy O’Hare, and Jim & Joyce O’Hare; treasured nephew of Marion and the late Vera Dytewski; dear uncle, cousin, godfather and friend of many.
Tom was very social, easy going and active in both the workplace and his personal life. Born November 10, 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a proud graduate of St. Joseph High School (1972) before earning a degree in Union Leadership from the National Labor College in Maryland. His career path progressed from service technician to business representative for Local 1363 – International Association of Machine & Aerospace Workers. He was passionate about his local and willing to help out any members in need. Tom was known by members as a champion for their working rights and by management as a fair negotiating partner.
Always a social and supportive individual, he was active in school alumni associations for both St. Paschal’s and St. Joseph High School. He greatly enjoyed polka music and could sometimes be seen dancing along when he wasn’t explaining the styles and strengths of many accordion players. Tom enjoyed bowling, working out, and collecting classic cars. When he wasn’t watching the Browns or Guardians, he switched the channel to find his favorite western, military or Italian movies and shows. He was an avid traveler, with recent trips to Ireland, Banff, Arizona, Naples, FL and many other locations.
Passionate about his Italian and Slovenian roots, he was an active member of the AMLA and a regular at various cultural and ethnic festivities. He cherished his heritage by sharing stories, enjoying Italian operas at the Cultural Garden, and participating in events at the Slovenian Home or SNPJ Farm. He embraced the culture of Margy’s family, attending Dickard and Thornton reunions across the country, as well as numerous St. Patrick’s Day parades and celebrations.
Tom’s presence could light up a room and his humor and quick wit could quickly put others in a better mood. An honorable man, he took pride in his role as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Beyond his family life, Tom's generosity extended to his decision to become an organ donor, a final act of kindness that reflected his selfless nature. He will be lovingly remembered by his adoring family and all who knew him.
