Theresa E. Iskra

Theresa E. Iskra (nee Debevec), passed away Nov. 8, 2024, aged 96 years. The beloved wife for 65 years to the late Anton J. "Tony", loving mother of Anton Jr. "Tony", Susan (Charlie) Martin, Donna Nelson, Annette, and David (Betsy), grandmother of 9 Amazing grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, cherished daughter of the late Frank and Mary (nee Malnar) Debevec, devoted sister of Emma Gutoskey and the late Mary Bianco, Edward Debevec, Sylvia Unick and Jean Ulyan, fond aunt and great-aunt to many. 

Theresa was born on April 14, 1928 to Mary Malnar and Frank Debevec in Sugar Run, PA and moved to Cleveland with her family in 1939. After graduating from Collinwood High School, Theresa worked at a coffee plant, as a bank teller, and at Halle's and Sears. After her children began school, she returned to work at General Electric for over 25 years at Nela Park and Ravenna. In 1951, her brother, Edward, introduced Theresa to her late husband, Anton (Tony) Iskra, and eight months later they were wed until Tony's death in 2016. Their first date was dancing. Her husband always recalled the blue skirt she wore that matched her eyes. Theresa resided in the home her husband built in Willoughby Hills for 70 years. Theresa and Tony went on to have five children, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. 

In 1992, Theresa retired from GE and spent her time gardening, dancing with her husband, baking, golfing, bowling, crocheting, sewing, walking, and mostly enjoying family and friends. Theresa was a member and secretary of the Women's Auxiliary Club for VFW Post 4358. She was also involved in a sewing club and golf club and her fellow members became life-long friends. Theresa loved welcoming company into her home with a smile and plenty of food.

Theresa, Terry, aunt, cousin, sister, friend, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother will be forever loved and missed. 

Funeral services Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the funeral home at 11 AM. Pastor Michael Currier officiating. Interment at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Theresa at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON RD. (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) ON FRIDAY FROM 4-8 PM AND SATURDAY MORNING 10-11 AM.
