THEODORE O. TAUBERT age 97, beloved husband of the late Rae Alice (nee Erbor) and Nadine (nee Bechemer); loving father of Fred Huegel (wife Ann), Carrie Bacso (husband David), Bill Huegel (wife Sherry), Nancy Wright (husband Dennis, deceased), Tim Taubert (wife Pam) and the late Helen Humpal (husband Steve); devoted grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 15; cherished son of the late Orton and Flora (nee Krider); dearest brother of the late Janet Tavrell; World War II U.S. Army-Air Corp Veteran.
Ted grew up in Cleveland Heights and upon his graduation from Heights High, attended Fenn College to study engineering and co-op at Thompson Products. In1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and completed basic and advanced flight training in Texas, receiving the rank of Second Lieutenant. He completed multiple further training assignments stateside before deployment to England in May 1944. Ted flew 89 combat missions over France, Belgium and Germany as part of the 368th Fighter Group European campaign, receiving the Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross and Presidential Unit Citation for his service. Following active duty, he remained with the Air Force until 1955.
Returning to peacetime life, Ted graduated from Kent State University, started a family and his own printing business in East Cleveland, serving area small businesses and school systems. He retired from Taubert Printing in 1986. Ted enjoyed sailing, photography, traveling to Europe and visiting Normandy. He remained an active pilot. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and was devoted to his family.
Ted especially enjoyed visiting Cedar Point each summer in to his 90s. A humble hero, he received French Legion of Honor Medal in 2013. Ted will be remembered as a friendly, caring, compassionate, outgoing and generous man. He was intelligent, adventurous, hard-working, faithful and spiritual. He will be greatly missed.
