THEODORE BRITTON SELOVER JR., age 89, passed away while at home with his loving family on February 27, 2020, beloved husband of Barbara Allen-Selover for 65 years, loving father of Cynthia, Mark and Peter, loving grandfather of Megan Ingersoll. Served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Senior Research Chemist at SOHIO for 33 years. Chemistry and Math Tutor at Tri-C Eastern Campus for 28 years.
Theodore B. Selover Jr., was born January 13, 1931 and passed away February 27, 2020. He was a resident of the Cleveland area for 89 Years. Theodore grew up in South Euclid and has lived in Shaker Heights since 1958. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Warrensville Heights and belonged to their Men’s Club and was an integral member of their Scholarship Committee. Theodore was extremely proud of his 67 year membership in the American Chemical Society, where they have honored him as a Senior Fellow. He also belonged to the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the American Physical Society. For many years he was the Regional Director for Northern Ohio of the Brown University Alumni Recruiting Organization. Theodore graduated from Brush High School in 1948 and received his Bachelor’s degree at Brown University in 1952, and then his Masters at Western Reserve University (now CWRU) in 1958. He worked as a Math and Chemistry tutor for Cuyahoga Community College at the Eastern Campus from 1992 to 2020. Prior to that he was the original Technical Director of the Design Institute for Physical Property Data of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers from 1985 to 1996. He was also the Board Chairman of the Engineering Societies Library in New York City from 1985 to 1987, and 1991 to 1992. He started his career in 1952 at the original SOHIO Research lab on Cornell Road in University Circle. When he left SOHIO in 1985 he was a Senior Research Chemist. Theodore proudly served in the Army Chemical Corp during the Korean War for 2 years with the rank of Corporal. He enjoyed sailing and curling. Theodore adored the music of Mozart, as well as Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Gilbert and Sullivan, Bagpipe music, and Bill Crofut. Theodore loved his summer vacations with his family in Canada and family Christmas traditions. He will be remembered as a brilliant and passionate scientist, who was a devoted member of his church, and a loving husband, father and grandfather. Theodore will be dearly missed.
