Susan McLaughlin

December 5, 1944 — December 19, 2023

Cleveland Heights

SUSAN H. MCLAUGHLIN (nee Alice Susan Hill), passed away peacefully on her own terms on Dec. 19, 2023, at Judson Park, aged 79 years. Beloved wife of the late John S. McLaughlin, dearest mother of Mark Hill McLaughlin, Peter Drake McLaughlin, and Christopher Knipe McLaughlin (wife Esthela), loving grandmother of Valentina and Camila, cherished daughter of the late William and Jane (nee Herrmann) Hill, older sister of the late Sarah Hill.

Mrs. McLaughlin was born in New York City, attended the Chapin School for Girls and met her husband while attending Wells College in Aurora, NY. She was a proud member of the Class of 1966, and very active with her class reunions. After college, she worked in New York as an Administrative Assistant at Glamour Magazine, often having makeovers/modeling printed in the magazine.

While raising three boys in Cleveland Heights, she worked for a time at the Board of Education for Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District. Susan was a lifelong, passionate patron of the arts, especially theater, dance, and the Cleveland Art Museum. She was a devout, evolved Catholic, supporting women priests, married priests, and liturgical dance in Mass. She was a world traveler, having gone on an African safari with her family when she was young, and living in Spain and Cuba for a Summer. Everywhere she went, she would find the local Catholic church and attend Mass, even on vacation. For her, every Catholic church in the world was like a home away from home.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 10 – 10:30 AM at St. Ann Catholic Church of Communion of Saints Parish (Cedar at Coventry Rds.). The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM. Interment following in Lake View Cemetery, overlooking the Wade Pond. All are invited to a luncheon following the burial at Walsh Hall of St. Ann Church.

Arrangements entrusted to THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID.
