STEPHEN J. HOVANCSEK, age 81, beloved husband for 41 years of Anne Marie (nee Radovic); loving father of Annie Sero (husband Raymond) of Texas, Mary Hovancsek (husband Gary Verbic), and John Paul of Florida; devoted grandfather of Charles, Nathanial, Madigan, Sienna and Kayla; dearest son of the late Steve and Elizabeth (nee Moore); cherished brother of Louis (wife Marcella), Donald (wife Joan) of Washington and the late John and Betty Ann; dear brother-in-law of Josie and Frank Horvath; dear uncle and great-uncle of many.
Stephen lived in Gates Mills for 29 years before moving to Naples, Florida. After graduating from Ohio State as a Civil Engineer, he owned and operated Stephen Hovancsek & Associates Inc.
Stephen belonged to St. Francis and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Felicitas (St. John of the Cross). He was a past President of the Kiwanis of Richmond Heights and had also been past Presidents of several other organizations, including NE Engineering Society and NE Ohio Retired Service Directors. Stephen also served as City Engineer for many communities.
Stephen enjoyed golf, traveling and listening to classical music. He also enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes. However, the thing that gave him the greatest pleasure in life though was spending time with his children and grandkids.
His family will remember him as honest and dedicated. A hard working man that put his family first and was always grateful for what he had. Anyone who knew Stephen will recall a kind and gentle soul who had a “happy go lucky” feel to him and always had a smile on his face.
Contributions may be made in Steve’s memory to Sons of the Divine Will, PO Box 701327, Saint Cloud, FL 34770.
Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, December 27, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 10 AM. Interment following at Gates Mills North Cemetery.
