STELLA ELMO (nee Galofaro), age 79, beloved wife of the late Christy J; loving mother of Margaret, Mary Jo, and Loredana Elmo; devoted nonna of Alyssa and Michael Adamowski, and Gunner and Jagger McIlvaine; cherished daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (nee Campisi) Galofaro; dearest sister of 5 brothers and 2 sisters all of Italy.
Our Mom was a really remarkable person, she came to this country when she was 27 and without any formal education she learned to speak English by watching “American TV”. That process began an over 50 year love affair with soap operas which she passed on to us. I think we were the only kindergartners who came home to watch General Hospital. Stella made her own bread, pizza, tomato sauce and “the cooks”. Every fall she made cannoli shells, a tradition we continue; even Gunner and Jagger learned to make them. She loved her family and friends. She loved having guests and making elaborate dinners. She tried to feed everyone who walked into her home. We believe she will always regret not getting Michael to eat his pasta with sauce instead of butter. We believe she was proud to have passed on her need to iron all her clothes including bedsheets to Alyssa. Before her illness she was strong, vibrant and worked incessantly. She will be missed.
Contributions may be made in memory of Stella to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110.
