Stansa Zitnik

Stanislava (Stansa/Slavka) Povirk Zitnik passed away on October 22, 2024 at the age of 84 after her 5-year battle with ovarian cancer. Beloved of Dusan Zitnik (deceased), dear Mother of Dusan M. "Duke", Elizabeth Thelen (Brian), Barbara, Margaret Pilon (Thomas), Nicholas, Catherine Mechenbier (Bert) and Christine Foell (Robert); loving Grandmother of Stephanie (Justin), Martha (Alexander), Matthew (Sarah), Rachael, Olivia, Lindsey, Samantha, Katelyn, Christopher, Andrew, Abigail, Daniel, Grace, Jonathan, Julia, Nicholas, Luke, Gregory, Noah and Emily; doting Great-Grandmother of Ellie and Rosemary; treasured Daughter of the late Vincent and Amalia (nee Kumer); cherished Baby Sister of Vida and the following deceased siblings; Joze, Micka, Martin, Francka, Malka, Ivanka, Toncka, Barbka, and Twins Steven and Stefka; devoted Aunt and Great Aunt.

Stansa was the youngest of twelve siblings. She was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia on April 24, 1940. She emigrated to the United States in 1949 through the help and generosity of the Suster family. Stansa grew up in Euclid and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School in Collinwood, and was an alumna of Villa Angela Academy in Cleveland. She married Dusan in 1960 at the young age of 20 and joyfully raised 7 children. While being a devoted mother and homemaker, she involved herself in many different activities where she knew she could make a difference. Her willingness to constantly show love and generosity was because she loved God, lived by her Catholic faith, and was grateful for her gift of life. She always believed in trying her best, fighting for the right cause, and never giving up. Stansa was so proud to have 20 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, and loved each one of them dearly. Throughout her life, she was the rock of her family, and taught her children that God and family come first. It was through her unwavering faith that she was given the grace and peace she needed to accept her cancer journey. Stansa truly made such an impact on so many lives, and will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
