Sophie was born on February 26, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio where she married Michael and they made Euclid their home for 50 years. She was extremely proud of her Slovenian heritage and belonged to several Slovenian groups such as S.N.P.J. Lodge #142, she served on the SNPJ Farm Board, the Cleveland Federation, Cleveland Athletic League, A.M.L.A. Lodge #8 Kras, P.S.W.A. and the Jadran Chorus. The sound of Slovenian polkas and waltzes could be heard throughout her home. A woman of great faith she attended St. Mary's Church in Collinwood throughout her lifetime. A hardworking woman, she was employed by the Euclid school system as a Cafeteria Lady, and when she retired she spent another 15 years working at a local restaurant. She was a wonderful seamstress, making many of her daughter's outfits as well as clothes for herself (she loved Vogue patterns!) and she also was a terrific baker and made many Slovenian deserts especially potica and strudel. Her butter cookies for every holiday were especially famous! What brought her the most joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, taking her family on trips to the Ohio State Fair, and going on road trips in the family car with Dad driving and the four girls sitting in the back seat trying to behave and Mom letting the kids be kids. Family meant everything to her, and she loved and supported all of her daughters many accomplishments in life. Her sense of humor was unmatched, and she was a joy to be around. Sophie accomplished many things in her nearly 101 years of life and through it all she remained humble. Sophie passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025. She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she was a part of.
