Sofija Matic

SOFIJA MATIC (nee Milicevic) age 77, beloved wife of the late Pero; loving mother of John (wife Christine), Josie, Joe (wife Anita) and the late Baby Anton; devoted Baba (grandmother) of John, Danny, Nikolas, CJ and affectionately known as Baba to Maria, Alyssa and Joey; treasured daughter of the late Ivo and Kata Milicevic; dearest sister of the late Lucija Vucic, Mijo Milicevic, and Zorka Simic; dear aunt and great-aunt of many.

Sofija lived a blessed life. She was born in a small village in Croatia. She met her husband of fifty years, Pero in a town between their two villages. They traveled to Paris, France and married. They came to the United States, settling in the Cleveland area in 1967.

Croatian was Sofija’s first language and managed to find work, proving her strong work ethic, while raising her children, who were always her top priority. She retired in 2005 after almost thirty years. In retirement, she took care of her husband until he passed in 2017. She was active with St. Paul’s Croatian Church, the Croatian Pensioners Club, GM Retirees Club, Divine Word Catholic Church and the Kirtland Senior Center. She was faithful to her Croatian and Catholic traditions and was grateful to have made wonderful friends in the many circles she travelled in.

Sofija enjoyed travelling, working on her home and gardening.  She was devoted to her family and enjoyed cooking for them any time, any request. She was active in the lives of her children and was a cherished grandmother. An active Baba (grandmother), she took advantage of every opportunity to spend time with them, whether driving them to school or watching sporting events.

She will be dearly missed.

Private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Divine Word Catholic Church with burial at All Souls Cemetery.  Arrangements by THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS.
