Cole (husband Fred) and the late Carl; dear uncle of Bruce, Michael (wife Ulka), Christine McCargar (husband Rich, deceased), David Cole (wife Kathy) and great-uncle of many and great-great uncle. U.S. Army Veteran.
My wonderful stepdad of 33 years, Sidney McGimpsey, passed peacefully into heaven July 31, 2016. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease for 10 years and the last few were very difficult for him, especially since he was unable to be his active self. Sid loved to participate in all activities of any kind to stay very active. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, hunting, hiking, skiing, scuba diving, and most recently, ocean kayaking. He also loved sports, especially boxing (he was an amateur boxer himself in his younger days), and was found most Friday nights enjoying the fights on TV. We always loved his adventurous spirit and his love of humor. His laughter was infectious! He was very proud to have served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a devoted husband and father (he took in 4, count ’em 4, girls; Theresa, Susan, Marie and Barbara ages 9 to 17 when he married our mother 33 years ago). He was completely devoted to our mother and treated her like a queen! He took her on adventures all over the world (Europe, all over the U.S., Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico, South America, and Africa) and even got her to learn how to scuba dive at age 50! A dear uncle, helping raise his 2 nephews Bruce & Mike McGimpsey, brother, son, Grampa Sid to 6 grandkids; Kyle, Gina, Hannah, Rachel, Emily, and Sophia. He introduced my sister Barb and I to scuba as well and he was my favorite dive buddy. He worked hard as a machinist in a factory for many, many years. I can remember finding him napping in the car while he waited to pick us up from school, but he was always there for us even after a long day at work. Even though he never had children of his own, he was a father figure to many. He was a Boy Scout Leader when his nephews were growing up and took my sisters under his wing after our first daddy passed away. He showed respect to all even when his Irish temper got the best of him (which really wasn’t too often). We will always remember him with fondness and will take his loving and caring spirit with us wherever we go. We want to thank everyone for their love, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. (Written by Theresa Benyo Marzullo).
