Sgt. Shurvon Phillip, Usmc

Sgt. Shurvon J. Phillip, USMC was born on January 18th, 1981 to Gail and Austin Phillip in Mayaro, Trinidad & Tobago. He was the third of their four kids.  Shurvon was the fixer of the family and very adventurous, and loved to spent his spare time working on computers.

After graduating from Shaw High School in 1998, he joined the US Marine Corps.  While going through reserve training he worked at Best Buy and Wal-Mart but it was not until he got to his orders to join the 3rd Battalion 25th Marines, when he found his passion.  He switched his Military career from a computer tech to the Infantry.  Dedicated and hardworking he quickly rose to the rank of Sergeant. His time spent serving with the 3/25 provided Shurvon with his most precious memories.

On May 7th, 2005, coming back from a patrol in Al AnBar Province, Iraq, Sgt. Phillip suffered his injuries, leaving him with a severe brain injury that impaired his ability to speak and the use his motor functions.  Bravely, with hard work, his mom Gail by his constant side, and the help of family and friends, he began to have some use of his arms and was beginning to walk. His illness gave him many setbacks, each time, with his mom and family by his side, he persevered.  The impossible became possible; doubters became believers, and everyone he touched became his family.  Sgt. Phillip continued his recovery for 11 years, eventually succumbing to complications.

Sgt. Shurvon J. Phillip, USMC was survived by his mom Gail Ulerie, father Austin Phillip, grandmother Sylvia Baboo, siblings Janelle, Shirlon, Candace and Aaron.  His nieces and nephews Amaris, Jermaine, Jasmyne, Duane, Jermele, Kyla, Jada and Jaylin, brother in law Jermaine Hammond, a host of relatives and friends.

SHURVON YOU ENJOYED LIFE TO THE FULLEST,
Rest in peace…..
