SHIRLEY JEAN JAY (nee Pimlott) age 79, loving mother of John (wife Debra), Linda Partridge (husband Terence) and Robert (wife Stephanie); devoted grandmother of Emily, Allison, Robbie, Karley, Josh, Amanda and Hayley; cherished daughter of the late Charles and Martha (nee Simon) Pimlott; dearest sister of Charles Pimlott Jr.; dear aunt and great-aunt of many. Honored alumna of Shaker Heights High School, DePauw University and devoted sister of Alpha Omicron Pi.
Shirley was born on September 13, 1937 in Cleveland, OH and passed away October 5, 2016 in Mayfield Village where she has lived since 1962. Shirley graduated from Shaker Heights High School and DePauw University. She was a member of Mayfield Church since 1967 and was a very faithful volunteer, serving in many areas, including Praying Grandmas, God’s Caring Community, and the Single Adult Ministry. Shirley was also very involved in her children’s activities, as an officer in the PTA, a Girl Scout leader, a member of the nursery school’s co-op and many other activities. She was very devoted to her community, as a member of the Mayfield Village Recreation Committee, the Mayfield Village Citizens Advisory Board, Friends of the Mayfield Library and was a volunteer for countless other groups, organizations and events. Shirley has been a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority since her college years, and has remained an active member in the Cleveland East alumnae group. She was a bookkeeper for Brook’s Decorator Plants and also worked at Heinen’s Grocery Store. Shirley enjoyed reading, listening to music, gardening, playing Mahjong and Bridge with her friends and sitting on her porch with a glass of wine. She also loved to travel, whether visiting other countries with some senior friends or going on “Jaycations” with her family. Shirley got the most enjoyment in life from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved attending their sporting events, concerts, recitals and awards ceremonies. Shirley will be remembered for her loving and selfless nature, her faith, her sense of humor and as a devoted mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.

Cremation by DeJohn Crematory. Celebration of Life Service Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 4 PM at Mayfield Church. Reception following at the church. Private burial Monday at Lake View Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Shirley at the CHURCH on Sunday 3-4 PM. Arrangements by The DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home of Willoughby Hills.
