SHIRLEY ANN GREENWAY (nee Poncar) age 91, beloved wife of the late Walter "Gay" Sr.; loving mother of Walter Jr. (Janice), Denise (Ed) Wilson, Bill (Tammy), and Wayne (Liza); devoted grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 16; cherished daughter of the late William and Florence (nee Spraggins) Poncar.
Shirley was born on February 23, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio and spent most of her life in Geauga County. Blooming into the most caring woman, she served her community caring for others as a nurse. She devoted 35 years to Geauga Hospital and continued caring for patients as a volunteer for many years. Nursing also led Shirley to her husband and the two married on August 7, 1954. Together they were blessed with 4 children whom she loved and adored. She treasured being a mother and truly enjoyed becoming a grandmother and great grandmother. Shirley cared deeply for others and that nourishment extended into her gardens, both flowers and vegetables. She found a lot of value in the beauty of flowers and appreciated them everywhere she went. She was an avid crafter, which consisted of many things including sewing, crocheting, and painting ceramics. Shirley and Walter were avid campers and belonged to the Al Koran camping group. On March 10, 2025, Shirley passed away joining her husband and great granddaughter, Emily Yarish, in Heaven. Shirley's knack for making holidays extra special and those around her feel cared for and loved will be dearly missed.
