Shirlee Liuzzo

SHIRLEE R. LIUZZO (nee Rathburn), age 87; beloved wife of the late Joseph; cherished mother of Michael (wife Joy, nee Cicman); dearest sister of the late Eddie and sister-in-law of Carmella DeJohn (husband Ross Sr.), Mary, Mario (wife JoAnn) and the late Nancy Mazzone (husband Biagio, deceased) and Anthony; adored aunt, great-aunt and great-great aunt of many; loving companion of Dan Novinc.

Shirlee was a resident of Mayfield Heights for many years and lived in Hotchkiss, Colorado where she was raised from 1974 to 1988 along with her son Michael.  She lived at the Slovene Home for the Aged for the last eight years.  She was a very civic minded lady who was politically active in Hotchkiss where she was the first woman to serve on city council and as the pro-tem Mayor of Hotchkiss. The Chamber of Commerce also benefitted from her dedication. Shirlee was a recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award in Hotchkiss.

Listening to all kinds of music was a special interest for Shirlee.  She loved traveling, activities outdoors, and just sitting and talking with anyone.  Her friends and family will remember Shirlee positive and vibrant taking pleasure in the simple things and loving life.  She had a tremendous positive attitude and always had a smile on her face.  She made you feel as if you were the only person in the room.  Shirlee always said she was a very lucky lady.

Contributions may be made in Shirlee’s memory to National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Ohio Buckeye 6155 Rockside Rd., Suite 202, Independence, OH 44131 or Hospice of the Western Reserve 17876 St. Clair Ave. Cleveland, OH 44110.  Tribute Service Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Funeral Home at 1 PM.  Burial following in Calvary Cemetery.  Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Shirlee at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just east of Green Rd.) SATURDAY 10 AM – 1 PM.
