Sarah Pinkley

Sarah Helen (Hookway) Pinkley, 89, was the beloved wife, for 63 years, of late Lester G. Pinkley. She is the loving mother of Arlene Ussery (husband, George) of California, Barbara Pinkley of Kenya, Africa, and Jonathan Pinkley (wife, Connie) of Cleveland. Raised on a farm, Sarah graduated from Canton South High School and Ohio State University and taught home economics at Canton South High School. After attending Cleveland Bible College with Lester, their family left for full-time missionary service on the Mexican border with World Gospel Mission (WGM) in La Feria, Texas, where Sarah taught home economics. They transferred to the Southwest Indian School in Peoria, Arizona, where Sarah taught high school courses and served as girls’ dorm mother and assistant dietician. In retirement, she and Lester continued short-term mission projects while living in Cleveland with their son’s family. They were active members of Bethany Covenant Church of Lyndhurst. She lived by the motto: Child of God, go and serve. Sarah is survived and cherished by all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Nathan and Darrel Ussery, Rachel Luzi, and Kristianna and Brian Pinkley. She is the great-grandmother of Oliver, Andrew, Elliot, Briana, Natalie, Jadelyn, Bella, Liliana, Scaretta, Rayvena, and Azariya. Samuel Lloyd and Ethyl Hookway. She is the dear sister of James, Norman, and Carl Hookway, Phyllis Clouse, and the late Esther Cooley, Marjorie Hookway, Dorotha Lee Bowman, and Harvey Hookway. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ministry of Barbara Pinkley c/o WGM, P.O. Box 948 Marion, IN 46952-0948. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with family on Tuesday 4-8 pm at the DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home of South Euclid, 4600 Mayfield Rd. (just east of Green Rd); Funeral on Wednesday at 10:00 am, at Bethany Covenant Church, 5120 Ridgebury Blvd., Lyndhurst, OH (Refreshments following); Interment at 2:30 pm at Wooster Cemetery, 983 Madison Ave. Wooster, OH.
