Sandra “Sandy” Rockafellow

Mass of Christian burial for Sandra Sue (Moulton) Rockafellow, 72, will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at The Church of St. Mary, 401 North Street Chardon.

Mrs. Rockafellow died June 17, 2018 after a defiant and unwavering fight with cancer. She was a life-time resident of Chardon, Ohio.

Sandy was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 17, 1945 to Pauline and John Moulton.  She graduated from Chardon High School in 1963, and married Donald “Jim” Rockafellow on September 3, 1966.  Sandy worked as a secretary for Coe Manufacturing, as a Real Estate Agent, an Avon Representative, and owned a cleaning business with her good friend Beverly Williams. Sandy remained active in her community throughout her life, managing Chardon Girls Softball, volunteering at election polls, supporting Chardon High School events, meeting with her TOPS friends, and participating in bible study at Hambden Congregational Church. Informed of both historic and current events, and being extremely well-read, she was able to debate her firm opinions, yet remain your best friend.

Sandy was the number one fan of her daughter, Susan, and grandchildren Halle, Daniel and Lila, and all of her nieces and nephews, attending as many school, music, and sporting events as possible. A natural caretaker, Sandy demonstrated endless love and compassion for everyone she encountered, and was a well-known animal lover. She had a special ability to make all feel welcome, included, and comfortable in her presence.

Sandy, lovingly known as “FiFi,” and Jim, her husband of 47 years, were an example of respect, laughter and love. Together, they selflessly helped friends, family and neighbors with any project. Their hobbies included card games, bowling, snowmobiling, and boating with many valued friends. In later years, they travelled the eastern United States in a small RV to visit casinos, friends and family, which Sandy loved. She most delighted in time spent with her grandchildren, always greeting them with genuine joy and love, and happily played any game they could imagine.

Sandy leaves behind partner, Dale “Bud” Street, with whom she happily shared the past few years. Sandy and Bud enjoyed motorcycle travel, swimming at the YMCA, and going out to eat with friends. The pair especially loved going on cruises to experience new places, including Alaska and the Caribbean, where she recently tried zip lining.

Sandy knew that family and friends were the greatest strengths and most important part of her life, she will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Sandy is survived by her daughter Susan (Kevin) Novotney of Chardon, grandchildren Halle, Daniel and Lila Novotney of Chardon; brother Sterling (Laura) Moulton of Madison;  partner Dale “Bud” Street of Chardon; many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and good friends Linda Christman, Richard and Patrice Hammitt, and John and Yvonne Landon.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Pauline (nee Hazen) Moulton; sister Paula Jo (nee Leonelli) Byrnes and husband of 47 years Donald James Rockafellow,

Cremation by DeJohn Crematory. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Sandy at The DeJohn Funeral Home & Crematory of Chardon (formerly Ritondaro) 126 South St. (Rt. 44, south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m.
