Sandra M. Lesko, 51, of Kirtland, passed away January 24, 2016 at her residence with her K-9 dogs “Doc” and “EJ” at her side after fighting a courageous battle against cancer.
Sandy was a Captain with Willoughby Hills Fire Department Paramedic Unit serving the community for over 25 years. She was also a Deputy Sheriff in Geauga County. Her passion was training and working with her cadaver dogs – Gondo, Eliot, Doc and EJ. Shortly after the 911 attack, Sandy and her dog Gondo volunteered for the recovery operations at Ground Zero in New York City. She also led a cadaver dog training program in Virginia. She totally dedicated her life to public service.
Ms. Lesko is survived by her sister Jo Ann Rogers (husband John). She was preceded in death by her parents Anne and Joseph Lesko and her brother Frank Lesko.
Family will receive friends 2-6 p.m. Saturday January 30, 2016 at the Zevnik-Cosic Funeral Home 28890 Chardon Rd. Willoughby Hills. A Fireman’s Memorial Service will be held at 5:30 p.m.
