Sam J. Syracuse

SAM J. SYRACUSE, age 86; beloved husband for 69 years of Alma (nee Hayes); loving father of Verna “Dollie” O’Loughlin (husband Joseph J. III), Alma Baur (husband Gary) and Sam J. Jr. (wife Joan); devoted grandfather of Daniel, Sherry and Sandy, Gary, Brian and Mark, Samantha and Angela, great-grandfather of 11 and great-great grandfather of two. Dearest son of the late Verna (nee Calderone) and Anthony; cherished brother of the late Catherine Scolaro, Vetus and Phil Syracuse; dear uncle and great-uncle of many.

Sam retired Owner of S.S. Construction and was a partner in many other companies. Mr. Syracuse died Dec. 16 at Hillcrest Hospital.

He was born on March 17, 1924 in Cleveland. He was a 23 year resident of Mayfield Village, previously residing in Euclid. He finally retired in 2002 from his companies. He was very dedicated to his work and family. He occasionally played golf and enjoyed boating but his businesses always were his passion. His family describes him as having a very big heart and helping others with humility never wanting the recognition.

The family suggests contributions be made in Sam’s memory to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church or a local Senior Center of your choice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 20, 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 11:30 AM. Burial following in All Souls Cemetery.

The family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Sam at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) on Sunday, December 19, 2010 from 3-8 PM.
