SAM E. “BILL” BUEMI, age 94, beloved husband for 64 years of the late Carmella J. “Mickey” (nee Minardo); loving father of Billy (wife Joan) and Bobby (wife Doreen); devoted grandfather of Robby (Jenna Scotese), Brian (wife Megan), Stacy Leach (husband Brock), Samantha and great-grandfather of Tyler; cherished son of the late Sam B. and Anna; dearest brother of the late Angelo (wife Loretta, deceased), Carmelo “Mel” (wife Carol, deceased) and Lucy; dear brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle and friend to many.

Mr. Buemi was a resident of Lyndhurst and previously Willowick for 50 years. Bill was a proud World War II Army veteran who served with distinction in 5 Allied invasions & campaigns in Africa, Sicily, Italy, Naples Foggia and Anzio Beachhead. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He belonged to American Legion Post #775, VFW (Euclid), and Purple Heart Association. Bill was also a member of the Alhambra Carmona Caravan #75, Knights of Columbus Gilmour Council #310, Hillcrest Rotary, Fraternal Order of Police #27, Little Italy Retirees, ISDA University Lodge, and Lions Club of Willoughby Hills.

He was the owner/operator of plastering, wrecking and bar businesses, and was best known as the owner of the Wine Barrel beverage store in Mayfield Heights.

In his spare time Bill enjoyed spending time with his late wife, Carmella “Mickey” (nee Minardo). His hobbies included golf, bowling, bocce and listening to Big Band Music. Bill’s family remembers him as being very giving, independent and strong-willed.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 10:00 AM at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91). Entombment to follow with Military Honors at Whitehaven Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Bill at the FUNERAL HOME on TUESDAY from 2:00 to 4:00 and 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
