Ruth Mary Vick, age 98, entered into eternal life on Monday, July 24, 2017at University Hospital of Cleveland. Ruth was born in Cleveland on October 2, 1918 to the late Martin and Loretta (nee McAree) Malaney. She lived in Cleveland Heights and graduated from Heights High School in 1935. Ruth married the love of her life Joseph in 1943.
She was employed as a candle decorator for the Colonial Candle Company before beginning her family of seven children. She was a longtime active member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in South Euclid. In addition, she was very active in the girl scouts and was known as the “cookie lady” for her role in marketing Girl Scout cookies. Ruth also worked as an administrative assistant for her husband at his Allstate Insurance Agency and at polling locations for the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. When she had free time she love to swim.
Ruth’s family described her as a sweet lady who was bright, cute, witty and grateful. Her favorite sayings were “remember the happy times” and “we got our laugh for the day.”
Ruth is survived by her children John Vick (wife Penny), JoAnn Samodell (husband Ralph), Marilyn Vick, Ruth DeVito, Loree Vick-Varaljay, Robert Vick, and Jim Vick (wife Sharon); grandchildren Jennifer Richmond (husband Randy), Ryan Samodell (wife Wendy), Stephanie Loncar (husband Martin), Melissa Gugliotti (husband David), Jim DeVito, Ruthie DeVito, April DeVito, Danny DeVito (Stephanie), Justin Varaljay, Malaney Varaljay-Boyce (husband Devon), Michael Vick, Brian Vick, Sarah Vick (fiancé Luis Leao), Rachel Vick and Michael Hettinger; great grandchildren Matthew Richmond, Bradley Richmond, Mallory Richmond, Taylor Samodell, Kalley Samodell, Britany Samodell, Vincent Rosalina, Mia Rosalina, Marty Loncar, Lola Loncar, Lucca Gugliotti, Lowen DeVito, Enzo DeVito, Liana Martin, David Hettinger, and Joshua Hettinger.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Vick who died in 2004; her twin sisters Elinor Malaney and Ethel Malaney and her son-in-law John Varaljay.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday July 29, 2017 at St. Noel Catholic 35200 Chardon Rd. Willoughby Hills at 10 AM. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Ruth at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) FRIDAY 4-8 PM.
