Ruth Collver Marshall, 93, was born near Simcoe, Ontario, on June 23, 1922 and was the middle child of three siblings of Catherine Gage Collver and Roy Ward Collver.
She married William James Marshall of Galt, Ontario, on September 26, 1942 and they resided in Toronto, Ontario until late 1947 when they immigrated to Moreland Hills, Ohio. In 1955 they moved to Chesterland, Ohio. Ruth loved music. She taught piano for several decades and sang with her husband in the Chesterland Community Church (UCC) choir. A member of the American Guild of Organists, she also served several churches as an organist over the years. First and foremost, Ruth was a devoted and caring wife and mother—often left to raise four boys by herself when her husband was absent on sales trips. Ruth enjoyed reading, gardening, her cats, and bird-watching.
Ruth is survived by four sons and their families—Craig and Barbara Marshall of Solon, Ohio, David and Mary Marshall of Raleigh, North Carolina, Hugh Marshall of Chesterland, Ohio, and Jan and William Marshall of Lexington, Kentucky; a step granddaughter Carolyn Lescher of Modesto, California, two granddaughters, Anne E. Marshall and her husband James Giesen of Starkville, Mississippi and Jennifer Marshall Durham and her husband Matt Durham of Cincinnati, Ohio and five great grandchildren (Eleanor, Kellan, Meg, Natalie, and Walter). Ruth Marshall will be greatly missed by her family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ruth’s name to the American Cancer Society. A service in remembrance of Ruth will be held at the THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.), on Friday, June 3 from 4 to 5 p.m.
