ROY T. HODGSON, SR. age 74, beloved husband for 54 years of Linda (nee Beachler); loving father of Roy Jr. (wife Christine) and Michelle (husband Ali Abdullah); devoted grandfather of Amanda, Abdur-Rahman, and Yusuf; cherished son of the late Paul and Myrtle (nee Knutson); dearest brother of Alan and the late Raymond (wife Joyce); dear brother-in-law and uncle of many including Raymond,II.
Roy was born on February 2, 1949, in East Cleveland, Ohio. He was great with his hands, whether he was sketching, building, or playing the guitar. Before enlisting in the United States Army, Roy was a guitar player for Vertical Union. Although it was one of the coolest things he did growing up, joining the military was a more honorable time for Roy. Over the course of his time enlisted he was able to make rank as a Marksman and MP Sergeant. His commitment to serve his country stationed him and his beloved wife, Linda, in Germany during the Vietnam War Era. Together they were able to begin a family there and travel parts of the world they may not have seen otherwise. He was truly a great dad to their two children. Again, a man great with his hands, Roy was an electrician by trade and a craftsman throughout everyday life. With his perfected skill and confident demeanor Roy was able to sketch drafts and build furniture from a simple idea. Time spent outdoors was time well spent. Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Cleveland Indians, playing horseshoes, and participating in dart leagues. He also enjoyed playing pinnacle with family at his brother Ray’s home. Above all things Roy was most proud of his family. Although often strong headed and set in his ways, his protectiveness over his family showed the immense amount of love he had for them. On February 12, 2023, Roy passed away, leaving his family and close friends with a void that can never be replaced.
