RONALD G. HUMMER, age 79, long-time resident of Willoughby Hills passed away Wednesday June 8, 2011. Beloved husband for 61 years of Nancy (nee Ryan). Loving and proud father of Cheryl Brakeman (Brian), Mark (Sharon), David (Tish) and John (Colleen). Cherished grandfather of 19 and great-grandfather of 8. Ron was born and raised in University Hts. by his late parents Raymond and Lenore (nee Wager) Hummer. Dearest brother of Lois Hopkins (Bill, deceased), Carol Brady (Pete, deceased) and the late Harlan (Therese). Dear uncle and great-uncle of many.
An excellent all-around athlete, Ron quarterbacked St Ignatius H.S to a West Senate championship and their first Charity Game appearance in 1949 and later coached football, wrestling and baseball at various levels. A long-time St Ignatius booster, he was honored on the 50th anniversary of their title with a Most Valuable Player trophy by a vote of his teammates. He loved all sports and was an avid softball player and lifetime fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns. A graduate of Fenn College, he was a fine businessman who was until recently, President of Ron Hummer Products, Inc and had a long sales career in the steel fabrication industry.
He was a member of Divine Word Catholic Church in Kirtland where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Reader and taught confirmation classes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Divine Word Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Cremation following by DeJohn Crematory. Private inurnment at Knollwood Cemetery.
The Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Ron at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) SUNDAY 2 :00 – 6:00 PM.
