ROBERT J. MEYER age 91, beloved husband for 72 years of Benedetta “Betty” (nee Cefaratti); loving father of the late Robert J. Meyer (Jeanie) and Jeffrey A. Meyer (Lenora); devoted grandfather of Kimberly Bednarski (Jason), Robert J. Meyer III (Whitney), Marie Holloway (Matt), Daniel C. Meyer, Catherine Speer (Joshua), Anthony A. Meyer, Mark Meyer (Holly), and Joseph Meyer; caring great grandfather to 16; cherished son of Joseph C. Meyer and Gertrude Jean Meyer (nee Digby); dearest brother of Joseph “Bud” Meyer (wife Edith), Mary Ellen Padgett (husband Jim), and the late James Digby; faithful companion to Daisy; dear uncle and great-uncle of many. U.S. Navy Veteran.
Robert was born on July 7, 1933 to Joseph C. Meyer and Gertrude Jean Meyer in Mentor Ohio. He graduated from Collinwood High School and married the love of his life Betty in 1953. The two settled down in Willoughby Hills Ohio where they started a family together, and where he was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church. Robert worked his way up to becoming a manager at TRW Tapco, where he eventually retired from after many years of diligent service. He could often be found listening to old county music or Willies Roadhouse on XM Radio, and in his spare time enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, bowling, and watching the Cleveland Indians. He especially enjoyed going on golf trips and hosting family get togethers, but what brought Robert the most joy in life was being a grandpa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was known for his delicious family backyard BBQ get togethers. He could be best described as a nurturing presence (especially towards babies) who was social but also quiet and reserved. He was a dog lover, and spent the last years of his life with his beloved companion daisy by his side. Robert passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
