Robert Elmer Hornyak

ROBERT ELMER HORNYAK (affectionately known as “Uncle Bob” by most) passed away the evening of July 10th at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights., Ohio. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and was the son of John and Margaret (Olexo). During World War II he served in the United States Army as an overseas Military Police officer; afterwards, most of his working life was spent as an engineer (primarily at the General Electric Corporation) after having earned a degree in mathematics from John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.

He had a strong Christian faith and was a humble and likeable man who always showed concern for others and was one who deemed good citizenship and patriotism prime characteristics a person should practice as they go through life; this was evidenced by his own life in that putting others first was second nature to him.

Golf was an ever present joy as he and his brothers regularly played the various courses that were available in the area. They enjoyed each other’s company and spent one or more days each week perfecting their respective games. He also had a fondness and liking for technology having simultaneously owned two computers and two iPads with which he regularly surfed the internet so as to keep on top of the latest developments in both society and technology.

He is survived by several nephews and nieces as well as grand-nephews and nieces who, when he was able to attend, cherished his presence at family gatherings.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet for the Mass of Christian Burial Friday, July 19, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (Gates Mills) at 11:30 AM. Burial following in All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Uncle Bob at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just East of Green Rd.) THURSDAY 4-8 PM.
