Richard Deering “Dick” Spellman
Richard “Dick” Spellman passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Hospital on December 4, 2015. He was born February 17th, 1927 to the late Victoria and Walter Spellman in Cleveland, Ohio. He was married to the late Theresa “Tess” Grumbach Spellman on October 2, 1948.
Dick served in the United States Navy during World War II. He enlisted in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946 as First Class Seaman. He served on the USS Dublin and earned the American Area Ribbon, Victory Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon.
In addition to his wife Tess, he is also preceded in death by a brother Walter Spellman and is survived by brother Edward Spellman, sister in law Betty Wildman and her family. He is also survived by his children Barbara (William) Horn of Port Charlotte, Florida, Gayle (Michael) Decorpo of Cleveland, Richard Spellman of Mayfield Heights and Robert (Kam) Spellman of Lewis Center, Ohio; 7 grandchildren Paul and Billy Horn, Vincent Busa, Connor, Quinn, Aydan and Jack Spellman, 3 great grandchildren Liam, Ella and Soren Horn. He is also survived by his lifelong friend, Dick Mahoney.
A special thanks to Mark Hoehnen , a dear friend and neighbor who helped Dick over the years. The family is very grateful for all his support.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hillcrest Hospital, especially the nurses and aides for all the wonderful care they provided and also to Hospice of the Western Reserve for the support to Richard and the family.
A private burial service will be held. DEJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID will be in charge of the arrangements. Any donations are asked to be sent to Hospice of the Western Reserve in memory of Richard Spellman to 17876 St. Clair Avenue Cleveland, Ohio 44110.
