Richard Allen Lewis

Richard Allen Lewis, of Willoughby Hills, passed away peacefully at the age of 95, on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at The Preserve Assisted Living in Mentor. Mr. Lewis was born on December 24, 1929, in Warren, Ohio, to Arthur and Florence (Brockway) Lewis. Richard graduated from Warren Howland High School in 1947. Richard was drafted into the United States Army in 1952. After serving basic training at Fort Belvoir, in Virginia. Richard was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, until his discharge in 1954. Richard attended Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. for one year before transferring to Ohio University. While at Ohio University, Richard met Patricia Lynn Barry, and they were married on September 12, 1959. The newly- married couple moved to Cleveland and Richard returned to a previous employer, Thompson-Ramo Wooldridge. In 1963, Richard returned to Ohio University for one semester before graduating in February 1964 with a Bachelor Degree of Mechanical Engineering (BSME). Richard was later employed by Addressograph Corp., where he received Awards for two US Patents. Richard then became Manager of Ultramatic Plastics Research and Development Robotics Division in Mentor. Richard obtained his Real Estate License in 1970 which led to his interest in real estate development and investment. Richard enjoyed an occasional tennis, golf or handball game but what he enjoyed most was working on his Real Estate projects. Richard and his family lived in Wickliffe for 28 years before Richard designed and built a home in Willoughby Hills in 1989. 

Richard is survived by wife Patricial Lynn Barry Lewis, and sons Jeffrey Dean (Andrea) Lewis of West Palm Beach, FL and son, Jay Alan Lewis of Brecksville, OH, and brother-in-law, Malcolm C. Barry of Chauncey, OH, and many nieces, nephews and great nephews and nieces.

Richard was preceded in death by his afore-mentioned parents, his in-laws Jack and Alma Barry, his brother Charles (Norma), sister Dorothy Colston, sister Arlene (Paul) Swetonic, Norma (Donald) Merriman Wells, and brother David (Ann) Lewis, and brother-in-law Lowell Dean (Janet) Barry.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to Hospice of The Western Reserve, 34900 Chardon Rd Ste 105, Willoughby Hills, OH 44094.

Funeral Service SATURDAY, February 15, 2025, at 10 AM at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91), with burial to follow at Chardon Municipal Cemetery.
