Richard L. Shaeffer

RICHARD L. SHAEFFER age 85, beloved husband of the late Rose Marie (nee Surace); loving father of Kathleen Leisure (husband Mark) and Elizabeth (Jim Rusnak); devoted grandfather of Janine Zappitelli (husband Steven) and Rachel Holub (husband Clay); cherished great grandfather of Giada, Bellina, and Calum: preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. U.S. Army Veteran.

Dick was born November 4, 1932 and passed away April 28, 2018. He lived on the Westside of Cleveland where he attended Rocky River High School and graduated in 1950. He continued his education at Miami University of Ohio and graduated from Kent State. He previously lived in Lakewood and spent the last 57 years in Willowick. Dick retired from working for General Electric in 1998 as a purchasing agent. He was a member of Shoregate United Method Church and the American Legion Post 678 in Willowick. Dick was a World War II aircraft enthusiast and enjoyed helping with air shows. He was a Paul Brown fan and followed the Cincinnati Bengals. Dick loved many genres of music including big band, button box, polkas, and bag pipes. He is described as a very hardworking man with strong convictions and very patriotic. He will be missed by many.

Celebration of Life Service FRIDAY, May 4, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the FUNERAL HOME. Burial following with Military Honors at Western Reserve Memorial Garden Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Richard at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) THURSDAY at 4-7 PM.
