Richard D. Rakovan

RICHARD D. RAKOVAN age 83, beloved husband for 58 years of Rosemary (nee Cistone); loving father of R. Catherine Rakovan; cherished son of the late Thomas Joseph and Anna (nee Gnizak); dearest brother of the late Rudy C. (wife Doris, deceased) and Thomas R.; dear uncle, great-uncle and friend of many. Member of the Knights of Columbus Gilmour Council # 310. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Richard to St. Mary Catholic Church 401 North St., Chardon, OH 44024.

Richard D. Rakovan was born July 10, 1936 in Lorain, OH and passed away peacefully in his home, March 7, 2020 in Munson Township, OH. He was a resident of Chardon for the past 45 years and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus Gilmour Council # 310 and belonged to Slovak Catholic Sokol. He worked as a shop teacher and guidance counselor at Willoughby South, Eastlake North and Maple Heights High Schools. Richard enjoyed tennis, skiing and playing golf. Richard loved to listen to Polka music. He found great interest in traveling, whether it be to the local bakery, Europe or Route 66. Richard was most contented being outdoors, enterprising projects around the house, farming, planting trees, gardening, and harvesting his fruit and vegetables. He will be remembered as a hardworking social man with great wit, that was a devoted husband and father. Richard will be dearly missed by all.

Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 11:30 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Richard at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) on WEDNESDAY MORNING 9-11 AM.
