RICHARD C. RUHLAND age 76, beloved husband for 45 years of Alma (nee Netzel); loving father of Anne Sutton (husband Benjamin) and Paul; devoted grandfather of Emma and Charlotte Sutton; cherished son of the late George and Mabel (nee Burns); dearest brother of Donald (wife Mary Jean); dear uncle and great-uncle of many.

He died February 7, 2018 in his Gates Mills home with family at his side following a long period of declining health. He was born in Wheeling, WV and moved to the Cleveland area in 1963; he was a resident of Gates Mills since 1981. A graduate of West Liberty University, he worked for the U.S. Government as an auditor for the Department of Defense and later as an Internal Revenue Agent for the I.R.S. In 1980, he started his own accounting practice and retired after 27 years. Richard was a U.S. Army Veteran having served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his love of animals. Never without a dog at his side, his Yorkie Pebbles was his latest devoted companion. He was an avid enthusiast and a breeder and handler of purebred dogs. Richard loved birdwatching, gardening, antique shows and traveling to Sanibel Island in Florida.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Richard to National Kidney Foundation or to Geauga County Humane Society Rescue Village, 15463 Chillicothe Rd., Novelty, OH 44072.

Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Richard at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) SUNDAY 2-6 PM. Cremation following by DeJohn Crematory. Private interment at Gates Mills Cemetery North.
