Rev. Roger N. Vernick

Reverend Roger N. Vernick, 78, a baptized, beloved child of our Heavenly Father, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 11th, in Cleveland, Ohio.  He was the loving husband, of 55 years, of Linda (nee Bauer), devoted father of Marc Richard, Kristyn Barbara Prochaska (late John), and Elizabeth Corinne Baroody (Ted); adored grandfather “Pops” of Samuel (Aubrey Brafford, fiancée), Jonathan “Jack”, Matthew, and James Prochaska; brother of Sandra Seaman (Larry), and survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Roger owned his own general contracting company for many years and at the age of 53 was led to become a pastor in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.  He entered Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN, served his vicarage in Conover, NC and graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 2001.  He was called to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Parkersburg, WV, where he served as the pastor for 16 years, retiring in 2017.
As a pastor, Roger loved to teach and preach the Word of God and care for his congregation. Roger deeply loved his wife Linda and family and was a guide and rock to his children.  As a grandpa, he was a source of endless jokes and giggles. There wasn’t a family party or gathering that would go by without roars of laughter when Roger was in the room.  While his family and friends grieve his loss, we are comforted by Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints”.

Visitation will take place on Friday, December 16, 2022 at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Willoughby at 10:30 AM, with visitation one hour before the service.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Trinity Lutheran Church of Willoughby 37728 Euclid Ave, Willoughby 44094 or St. Paul Lutheran Church 3500 Broad Street, Parkersburg, WV 26104.
