Phillip J. Bova

PHILLIP J. BOVA age 92, beloved husband for 67 years of Clare (nee Raith); loving father of Maryclare Lydic (husband Jesse), Jim (wife Marie), and Kathy Sabatino; devoted grandfather of Meggan Sherlock (husband Larry), twins Ashleigh A. & Jason (wife Elizabeth) and Lindsey Bushman, Kristen and Matthew Bova (wife Marissa) Katie Goldberg (husband Ryan), and Mark Sabatino (wife Chelsey), great-grandfather of 7; cherished son of the late Anthony and Mary (nee Catalano); dearest brother of Barbara Losik (husband Michael) and the late Joseph and Marguerite McGarrell (husband Paul); dear uncle of many. U.S. Navy Veteran.

Phil was born on May 26, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and passed away peacefully on October 13, 2019. He was raised in Cleveland and moved to Lyndhurst where he and his wife of 67 years raised their family. Phil graduated from Cathedral Latin High School and furthered his education at Western Reserve University where he earned his degree and worked as a Purchasing Supervisor for GE. He was a parishioner of St. Clare Catholic Church for 57 years and belonged to Knights of Columbus. Phil greatly enjoyed dancing, bowling, golf and softball. He proudly played in the North Coast Olympic Senior Games and The Babes of 1916 Softball League. Phil was devoted to his faith and his family. He cherished the time he spent with his wife, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phil will be remembered most as a gentleman, but in the words of his wife “he was truly a gentle man.” He will be forever missed.

Relatives and friends are requested to MEET AT CHURCH for Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 10 AM at St. Clare Catholic Church, 5659 Mayfield Road. Private burial at Lake View Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Phil at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) WEDNESDAY 4-7 PM.
