Philip Mary Brett

Philip Mary Brett, Born November 02, 1955 passed away on July 15, 2023 from cancer. Loving son of John Brett (dec.) and Barbara Mooney Brett, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Binnie) Eiger, devoted father of Liam (Kathryn), Keelin (dec.) and Maura, and grandfather to his treasured Alice and Molly Brett. Cherished brother of Maureen, Martin, Patrick (dec.), Margaret, John, Edward, Virginia, Sheila and Bridget. Proud uncle to 23 nieces and nephews and 10+ great nieces and nephews. 

Philip received his Master’s Degree from the University of Chicago in 1985 and received his CPA in 1987. He had a distinguished career in the municipal sector as a Finance Director and Economic Director of several cities in Cuyahoga and Lake Counties.

As an accomplished marathoner Phil competed in many local, state and national events, always proud of the races he placed first. His love of running continued throughout his life, often stating that running defined him.

A lifelong avid Cleveland sports fan, Phil was never shy about sharing his joy or (more commonly) displeasure with their performance. He had an encyclopedic knowledge about the history of each franchise and enjoyed sharing that with other enthusiasts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, 13815 Coit Rd, Cleveland, OH 44110 or the charity of your choice.

A remembrance gathering will be held for family and friends, details will be issued privately.
