PAUL MARTIN KAWALEC age 70, beloved husband for 46 years of Catherine (nee Mullins); loving father of Kandace Frye (husband Darin), Cheryl Opatrny, Sandra Severa (husband Jason), and Kelly Brewer (husband Rich); devoted grandfather of Hope, Holly, Hayden, and Hadley Severa, Dustin Belnap, Alex and Allison Opatrny, Elisia and Damon Frye, and Skye and Alyia Brewer; great-grandfather of Ronan and Leopold Brown, and Niccolo Monteleone; cherished son of the late John and Nelda (nee Blankenship) Kawalec; dearest brother of Micheal, August (wife Jackie), Susan Taddie (husband Mark), Richard (wife Joyce), Raymond, Andrew (wife Beverly), Peter (wife Nancy), Margaret Sutliff (husband Paul), Marc and the late Mathew Kawalec; dear uncle and great-uncle of many.
Paul was born on January 30, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio and passed away on May 30, 2018. He graduated from Chardon High School in 1966 and continued his education at Ohio University. For more than 20 years Paul worked as a quality control manager for LFE Corporation in Chesterland. Paul was extremely hard working, and was only semi-retired from Chardon Tool, where he was a diamond cutter. He grew up in Munson, Ohio and was the founder of The Munson Open Yearly Golf Tournament, which he led for 40 years. Paul enjoyed spending his time sitting outside on the porch, beer in hand, while listening to 50’s and 60’s music. He favored the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and Motown. Paul also liked watching the Cleveland sports teams and playing golf. He was an encyclopedia for sports and music, and could recite any statistic. Every year he looked forward to going to both Kelley’s Island and Mohican Park riding his bike, but it was the family time spent at cook outs and playing board games with his grandchildren that gave him the most fulfillment in life. Paul was a very kind and humble man who will be missed by all who knew him.
Contributions may be made in memory of Paul to American Diabetes Association and Autism Speaks.
