Nola Vargo

Nola B. Vargo (nee: Flannery), age 85, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2017 at Heather Hill Care Community in Chardon. She was the devoted wife for 64 years of recently deceased Steve E. Vargo; loving mother of Gary, Larry, Ricky Smith, and the late Steven and Darryl; devoted grandmother of Nathan and great-grandmother of Ayden; cherished daughter of the late John Henry and Elizabeth “Bessie” (nee: Barnett) Flannery. She was preceded in death by dearest twin sister Maggie, sisters Elsie and Emogene, and half-brother Burnis.

She is surrounded by the love of cherished relatives and friends.

Nola was born on June 8, 1932 in the beautiful mountains of Martin, Kentucky, and was a longtime resident of Chesterland, Ohio. She is fondly remembered as a loving spouse who was generous, energetic, and resilient, and was a second mother to her loving nieces and nephews. Nola was known for making the best homemade pies and she had an unwavering love of plants, flowers, and glassware. Her sense of fashion was always quirky and she was loads of fun. She single-handedly drove the entire neighborhood in one station wagon to Nela Park’s pool for entire summers and was rarely seen without her twin sister in the passenger seat. She was a longstanding member of Fowlers Mill Christian Church in Chardon.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 14, at 10am at the Funeral Home. Burial following at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland. A Celebration of Life gathering and lunch will conclude at the Euclid Masonic Temple, 27271 Tungsten Road, Cleveland. All are welcome.

Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Nola at the DeJohn Funeral Home & Crematory of Chardon (formerly Ritondaro) 126 South St. (Rt. 44, south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.

All donations will go directly to the care of the Vargo family.
