NELDA R. KAWALEC (nee Blankschein), age 89; beloved wife of the late John H; loving mother of Paul (wife Kathy), Michael (wife Dwyn), August (wife Jackie), Susan Taddie (husband Mark), Richard (wife Joyce), Raymond, Andrew (wife Beverly), Peter (wife Nancy), Margaret Sutliff (husband Paul), Marcin and the late Matthew James; devoted grandmother of 38, great-grandmother of 59 and great-great-grandmother of 1; cherished daughter of the late August and Florence (nee Arnold) Blankschein; dearest sister of Margie Smith; dear aunt and great-aunt of many.
Nelda was a resident of Painesville for 9 years after moving from Munson where she resided for 50 years. After her conversion to Catholicism, she was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Chardon for 50 years and for a brief time she attended St. Patrick Catholic Church and St. Mary’s in Painesville. Nelda graduated from John Hay High School and was a loving homemaker who cared for her family for many years. She was an avid baseball fan and loved the Cleveland Indians but also enjoyed playing piano and reading. Her family gave her the most pleasure and they will fondly remember her as a wonderful, humble, caring, sweet woman who was patient, hard-working and faithful.

Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by her grandson Fr. Zak Kawalec Saturday, October 4, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church (Chardon) at 9:30 AM. Burial following in All Souls Cemetery.
Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Nelda at THE DEJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY OF CHARDON (formerly Ritondaro) 126 SOUTH ST. (Rt. 44, south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) FRIDAY 4-8 PM.
